Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Firehawk Helicopter

Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Firehawk
Helicopter
Unlike the previous entry's indication, the Firehawk does not belong to L.A. County, it belongs to the Oregon Army National Guard. L.A. County has ordered several of the aircraft, the original (and only) firehawk is a 1996 Model UH60L loaned to Sikorsky and Aero Union for testing a development. The initial year's loan was extended to over two and a half years, but the aircraft was eventually returned to the Oregon Army National Guard in 1999.
It has since been repainted in Army OD with black markings. The firehawk saw action fighting several forest fires in Oregon in 2000. The aircraft has recently been put through phase (500 hour overhaul inspection), and has had the tank repainted gloss white with orange around the middle. Two of the blades have also been painted with white paint on the outboard half of the top. This change to the paint was due to the forest service requesting that the aircraft be more visible - the Army OD paint scheme blended in too well.
Other states have also ordered some of the aircraft, and or kits to apply to existing aircraft.
